Home again, naturally

[Recent poem. The title is referencing a 1972 pop song ‘Alone Again, Naturally’ by Gilbert O’Sullivan. The first line references the line ‘Death is a master from Germany/Deutschland’ (‘Der Tod ist ein Meister aus Deutschland’) from Paul Celan’s famous poem Todesfuge/Death Fugue]

Home again, naturally

Death is a Doktor from Deutschland:
scythe and scalpel work, old school,
no anaesthetic. Helps you disassemble

those sticky parts you’re wedded too.
Muscle control, mind control,
what passes for your personality.

All binned.

Pares you away like an onion, peel
for teary peel. The core finally revealed:

Removing his mask,
the Doktor says: welcome
home son, welcome home.
