B-Grade Celluloid

[Shots of orb-weaver spiders I took at Honeysuckle Point near Currarong]

B-Grade Celluloid

The mind like a spider
waiting for a prey of thoughts
trapped in its web of habit ‒

walking, say, the way
to Honeysuckle Point
ducking under taught web

clouds spun with orb-weavers:
anxiety tentacles out
into B-grade celluloid

entangling old neurons
in imagined Hitchcock,
Freud, delirious

with thrill, your naked
body textiled in sticky
light, flapping butterflies,

twitching with little
ribbed snowdrops
of very dead gnats
