Hopenhagen

On the day the leaders flunked it

as usual & set the future on fire

scientists believed they may have

detected dark matter in the form

of two WIMPs at the bottom

of a mine shaft in Minnesota,

the new moon roundly presented

absence, days started getting

shorter, over there longer, soon

in some stable or other some god

or other was about to be born

& cry himself to sleep.

[written December 2009 after the climate change farce at Copenhagen; supposed to be in couplets but, as with some previous poems, I can’t get WordPress to recognise this at the moment]
